Our History

The History of Government College Ibadan

Government College, Ibadan (GCI) is a high school for boys founded on February 28, 1929 on the Hills of Apata Ganga, Ibadan in Western Nigeria. The vision of the British founders was to groom future leaders of the emerging nation of Nigeria.

The school's five dormitories are named Swanston House (1929), Grier House (1930), Field House (1948), Carr House (1949) and Powell House (1973).

I am extremely grateful to be serving as the Chairman of our great organization this season. It is an honor to be entrusted with this office, and I look forward to aiding the GCIOBA USA family in our pursuit of continued success. In addition, I want to recognize and applaud the amazing achievements of the last leadership under the Chairmanship of my classmate Adeyinka Adenekan. The new leadership and I are eager to build on their excellent accomplishments.
